Sustainable Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis

Dr. Abir Sarbajna

Research

The central theme of my research work is to synthesize organometallic complexes and employ them in the activation, functionalization and conversion of small molecules to useful chemicals. Metal–ligand cooperation is exploited in all the catalysts for the selective conversion of challenging substrates. The common strategy all through my research work has been to synthesize catalysts with ‘proton responsive’ ligands in the backbone such that they can be applied in bond activation and catalysis in general. Extensive mechanistic and computational work has been done to identify key steps in such cooperative catalytic cycles.
